- Story Text: Katrin Dorre-Heinig won the 13th Hamburg marathon in a record time, while Tendai Chimusasa from Zimbabwe took the men's title.
There was a German winner of the Hamburg marathon on Sunday (April 19) when Katrin Dorre-Heinig won the women's section in a course record time.
Watched by around half a million people along the 42,195 kilometres route, the 36-year-old athlete from Leipzig, running in ideal conditions, completed her run in 2 hours 25 minutes 21 seconds to register her 23rd victory in forty marathons since 1982.
Second was another German, Manuela Veith, who ran inside the European Championships qualifying time, achieving a personal best of 2:30.58.
The men's marathon was won by Tendai Chimusasa from Zimbabwe, who ran to victory in his personal best time of 2:10.57.
The minor placings went to Kenyan atheletes.John Kiprono finished second in 2:11.31 with Samson Ngolebus coming third in 2:11.44.
