- Story Text: Passers by in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv may have been surprised as scores of women in high heels sprinted down a race track in the city's beach promenade on Thursday (July 16).
The competitors took part in a stiletto shoes run organised by 'Scholl' company in order to promote its foot care products.
The competitors put on their high heel shoes and stretched ahead of the competition, which consisted of several runs.
One of the competitors, Keren, told Reuters that running on heels is nothing new to her.
"I exercise just on my way up home, I live on third floor, I have two girls and I run all day so this is my real exercise. That's what I do and now I'm gonna do it on heels, it's just another day," she said.
As the runs started, people watched the sweating women competing against each other. Some of the competitors fell down on the track but continued running until the finish line. One was slightly injured and treated by medics at the site.
The winner of the race was Jenya Arkacheva, who won a trip to Paris.
"Whooo, I don't understand what to do now and it's a surprise. I don't know what to do and I'm so excited. (Q: Was it difficult?) No, my feet hurt a little bit because...it's not comfortable, it's not comfortable," she said.
Tel Aviv is largely a secular city and Israel's business capital. It is a tourist destination, boasting some of Israel's priciest beach front hotels and residences, smart restaurants and bars, but also features poorer suburbs populated by new immigrants. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
