  • Story Text: An Italian horse race that gives a good insight into form for next season's major events took place in Rome on Friday (17 June). The Criterium di Roma officially closes the racing season at the Capannelle Race Track.

    SYNOPSIS: A field of eight lined up for the race. Two of them were fillies, including number eight, Tersiva -- a visiting runner from Milan.

    The race in reserved for two-year olds. They are too young for major races in current season but when next they race they'll be in top class company.

    The course in 1200 metres (yards) and every step of the race is eagerly watched by followers of the sport, hoping to gain an indication of each horse's potential. Tersiva was one of the favoured horses in the race though not the top favourite. She went on to win from number seven, African Horse, and numbed six Be-But, third.

    Prize money for the race is more than 10-and-a-half million lire (GBP sterling), but it's not the money so much as the glory that's important to the winner.
