- Story Text: Incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won Iran's presidential election with 62.6 percent of the vote, Interior Minister Sadegh Mahsouli said on Saturday (June 13).
"Mr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has come first and with the finals polls -- he is confirmed as the 10th proud winner of the race," said Mahsouli in a news conference.
He said moderate challenger Mirhossein Mousavi won 33.75 percent of the vote. Turnout was a record 85 percent of eligible voters.
"Right now, with the newly-found honour that the people of Iran have come to - with regard to the unprecedented participation of the nation - everyone must celebrate. The main winner of this platform is our people," added the interior ministry.
