Summary:Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev accepted a US invitation to Washington for a superpower summit which would culminate in the signing of a treaty abolishing intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF) on December 7. Announcing the summit on October 30, US President Ronald Reagan said he hoped to go to Moscow next year to sign a treaty reducing strategic nuclear arms.
