Iranian President Ali Khamenei arrived in Yugoslavia on Monday for a three day visit. His visit came as an official Yugoslav newspaper started publishing excerpts from Salman Rushdie's controversial novel "The Satanic Verses."
Officials said on Sunday the book would also be published in Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia, which has a large Moslem community of its own, maintained generally good economic and political ties with both Iran and its bitter enemy Iraq throughout the Gulf war.
Talks between Khamenei and Yugoslav President Raif Dizdarevic are expected to centre on economic and bilateral relations between the two non-aligned countries.
