Summary:Habib Bourguiba, the man who had led Tunisia since independence from France in 1956, was removed from power on November 7, and replaced by a new president, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali. Government officials said the 84-year-old Bourguiba had been declared senile and too ill to rule, by his doctors.
