- Story Text: An accused Colombian drug trafficker was extradited to the United States Thursday (September 29) where he is wanted by U.S. authorities on charges of shipping 100 tonnes of cocaine into that country.
Juan Carlos Rivera Ruiz, known as "06," was the number two man of the Los Comba drug ring which ships thousands of kilos (pounds) of cocaine from Colombia to the international market.
Rivera was arrested in Colombia in September, 2009 and has been accused of trafficking illegal drugs and money laundering among other crimes.
He is also thought to have played a part in the 2008 murder of the Norte del Valle cartel drug lord, Wilbert Alirio, alias "Soap" in Venezuela.
Los Comba is headed by brothers Javier Antonio and Luis Enrique Calle Serna who are considered fugitives by the Colombian police and accused of shipping tonnes of cocaine into the international market.
Rivera who will be handed over to U.S., authorities was considered a key part of the organization which is also linked to Mexican cartels. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
