- Story Text: Los Angeles police said on Sunday (October 1) their resources were being stretched to the limit by a somewhat bizarre by-product of the long-running O.J. Simpson case - tourists.
Every day since the murders of Nicole Brown-Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in June 1994, tourists line up by the score to take photographs of the murder scene at Bundy Drive, Nicole-Brown Simpson's home.
Police maintain a 24-hour watch at the premises to protect the privacy of neighbours and to prevent cars from causing traffic jams outside the home.
Senior Lead Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Carson Pierce said police had to issue citations to any driver they pulled over for "obstructing traffic".
While anyone is free to walk past the residence, they are not allowed to stop for photographs, Pierce said. But when police are not stationed outside most of the curious ignore the ruling.
Pierce said that, while he understood natural curiosity, he wished "people would understand the concerns of local residents".
He said he hoped interest would die down when the Simpson case was over.
Meanwhile, the jury in the double-murder trial of O.J. Simpson began its deliberations on Monday.
