- Story Text: Police investigators comb scene where three
foreigners were killed on Philippine resort island of
Boracay.
Forensic experts searched a hilltop mansion on
Wednesday (May 4) on the Philippine tourist island of
Boracay to find evidence that could shed light on the
killing of a German, a Briton and a Swiss.
The German owner of the three-storey house, 69-year old
Anton Faustenhauser, Swiss Manfred Schoeni and 59-year old
Briton John Cowperthwaite were found stabbed to death on
Monday (May 3).
Cowperthwaite, an architect based in Hong Kong, is the
son of Sir John Cowperthwaite, founder of modern Hong Kong.
Schoeni, an art dealer, owns two galleries in Hong Kong.
A friend of Faustenhauser found the bodies of the three
men and a Filipino maid in the house called "Dolce Vita" on
Monday (May 3).
Police questioned 25 construction workers on Tuesday
after two blood-stained knives were found in the kitchen.
"We have conducted interviews on the 25 labourers who
are in the vicinity of the victim's house and right now,
there is an ongoing interview being conducted at the police
office of Boracay Special protection." said Remus Canieso,
a police superintendent.
The workers, who were landscaping and working on a
swimming pool, were the only people allowed in the
property, which sits on top of a small hill overlooking the
sea.
Only nine of the construction workers remained in
police custody for further investigation on Wednesday. The
rest were sent home.
Boracay, in the central Philippines, is a short plane
and boat journey from Manila. It is known for its pristine
beaches, scuba diving and nightlife.
Several countries warn their citizens against travel to
the Philippines, whose tourism industry has suffered from
crime as well as insurgencies by Muslim and communist
rebels.
