Summary:At least 45 spectators were killed and 345 injured on August 28 when three Italian Air Force jets crashed during a display at Ramstein air base in West Germany. Two of the MB-339A planes flying as part of a team in heart-shaped formation collided and then exploded, dragging a third plane down with them. The planes were about 80 metres (240 feet) above the ground at the time.
