Summary:United States and Soviet rescue teams, aided by eskimos, freed two whales in late October that had been trapped in an ice pack in Alaska for nearly three weeks. Eskimos living in the area had cut a chain of about 100 breathing holes in the ice. The whales were lured from hole to hole and then swam into the channel the rescue ships had broken up.
