Title:Yugoslavia: Provincial Parliament Resigns After Corruption Charges
Date:6th October 1988
Summary:Thousands of people demonstrated in the streets of Yugoslavia in October, demanding the resignation of provincial leaders. The entire Communist Party Politburo ruling the country's autonomous Vojvodina Province resigned on October 6 after 100,000 demonstrators demanded that they leave office. The protesters were supporting Serbian demands for greater control of the Province - part of Serbia and Yugoslavia's biggest Republic. Serbs throughout the country have taken to the streets in 1988 to protest against their alleged mistreatment at the hands of the ethnic Albanians. The crisis has centred on Kosovo in Serbia where Albanians outnumber the Serbs.
