- Story Text: Murdered French cartoonist Tignous (pronounced Ti-ny-oo) got a rousing send off from crowds outside a ceremony to mark his life on Thursday (January 15) in his home city of Montreuil.
As the simple wooden coffin - covered in cartoons and goodwill messages - was carried from the town hall to a waiting hearse hundreds showed their respects by applauding.
Tignous, whose real name was Bernard Verlhac, was to be buried during a private ceremony at the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris. There, he will join other famous inhabitants like Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Marcel Proust and Jim Morrison.
He was one of the 12 killed in last week's attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
