- Story Text: The star team of the 1993 hit "Grumpy Old Men" have been reunited for the sequel to the original film, appropriately called "Grumpier Old Men". This time, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau and Ann-Margret have been joined by Italian screen legend, Sophia Loren.
Once again, Lemmon and Matthau play John Gustafson and Max Goldman, two lifelong friends who find themselves still at odds even though their respective son and daughter, played by Kevin Pollack and Daryl Hannah, are getting married.
Gustafson is still married to Ariel, played again by Ann-Margret, which was the result of an all-out battle at the end of the first film.
The new element is Maria Raghetti, a beautiful newcomer to town who wants to turn John and Max's favorite fishing spot into an Italian restaurant.
Of course, the boys will do anything to stop her, but in the process, Matthau's character Max falls in love with her.
Also in the cast is Burgess Meredith, who once again plays Lemmon's fiesty father.
The film was directed by Howard Deutch, who is married to actress Lea Thompson. Both showed up at the film's Los Angeles premiere on December 14. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
