Summary:The Soviet Union's planned unilateral reduction in conventional military forces in Europe first got under way in Hungary on April 25 but May 19 saw the first mass departures of Russian troops from the country. At Sarbograd, six hundred troops and 57 T-64 tanks received a lavish send-off with music, flowers and ceremony.
