Summary:Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran's spiritual leader, died later on June 3 after suffering a heart attack. At his funeral on June 6 mourners mobbed his coffin in an outpouring of grief. Crowds surrounded the open casket in the Tehran Streets and shredded the white shroud covering the corpse, tearing off pieces of cloth to keep as holy relics of their beloved patriarch. The burial was delayed for nine hours.
