Summary:A United Airlines DC-10 passenger jet crashed in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 19 killing 111 of the 293 passengers and crew on board. Veteran pilot A.C. Haynes flew the aircraft 80 kilometres after the plane's tail piece and engine fell off during the Denver to Philadelphia flight. The 15 year old jet crashed during the landing, cartwheeling before it exploded in a ball of fire.
