- Story Text: Triple gold medalist at London's 2012 Olympics Usain Bolt was a part of events in Jamaica to honour the nation's past heroes as well as Olympians on Monday (October 10).
Bolt, along with other Olympians, were on hand to lay wreaths at the graves of the heroes at the National Heroes Park in Kingston. Bolt and Jamaica's Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller placed a wreath at the tomb of Jamaica's national hero, Norman Manley.
Bolt spent the afternoon paying tribute to one of Jamaica's first Olympians, the late Herb Mckenley, when a tombstone was unveiled in his honour at the National's Heroes Park.
Bolt was asked how he would like to be remembered on and off the track as well as about his plans for the rest of the year.
"On the track is just to be the legend, the greatest athlete ever to live, off the track, fun loving person that I am. That's how I would want to be remembered," Bolt said.
The day finished with thousands of Jamaicans turning out for a celebration of Jamaica's national arena to honour the Caribbean nation's Olympians and Paralympians after a record breaking year. Olympians Veronica Campbell, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Yohan Blake were just a few of the athletes who joined Bolt in the celebration.
The musical show featured evangelist Sandra Brooks; mento sensation The Jolly Boys, reggae greats Leroy Sibbles, Marcia Griffiths and Freddie McGregor; along with dancehall artistes I-Octane, Konshens and Beenie Man. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
