- Story Text: The cast of Moonlight has praised the La La Land cast and crew following the Best Film announcement debacle at this year's Oscars.
La La Land was incorrectly named as the winner of the prestigious accolade following a mix up on stage.
At the Vanity Fair party afterwards, discussing what happened, Naomie Harris told Reuters: "It was a strange moment, it was very awkward, I think it's awkward for La La Land and that's a shame for them. I think our producers didn't have an opportunity to say everything that they wanted to say, it was a very strange moment. It's a shame that it happened but I don't know, you know, these things happen and we just have to take the positives and the positive is that we won."
Moonlight's producer Adele Romanski added: "They were super, super gracious about it and we love them. It's been a long time that we've been on this tour with them, we've got to know them very well. There's a lot of mutual respect and I think that any one of the teams that might have been up there tonight in the same situation would have handled it gracefully as they had and we certainly would have had it been the reverse situation."
When asked what it was like looking from the stage into the audience after the mishap, Moonlight actor Travente Rhodes, explained: "(We saw) love, just love, just a bunch of love and respect from your peers that you respect who are at the same time throwing so much love and respect back at you. It was the most amazing thing."
The majority of the major name talent attending the annual post-Oscars bash in Beverly Hills opted to avoid the press to avoid talking about what happened on stage.
Among those who opted to skip the media pen were Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel, Halle Berry, Matt Damon, Justin Timberlake, Charlize Theron and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Miles Teller, friend of La La Land director Damien Chazelle and star of Chazelle's acclaimed film, Whiplash, told Reuters the director will be taking what happened in his stride. He said: "He's the youngest director ever to win the Oscar so he should be feeling pretty good about himself. I think, like I said, the last award of the night, I think it's a bit unfortunate the way that it was all… you know, handled, but credit to Moonlight, credit to La La Land. They are one of the most nominated films in history."
On a lighter note, Moana star Auli'I Cravalho, who performed How Far I'll Go from the Disney film's soundtrack said that her focus of the night was her idol, Meryl Streep, in the front row.
She told Reuters: "I had been practicing on the stage, working with my dancers and I looked down and I was like, Ooh! The face on the chair is Meryl Streep, the woman that I look up to, she's right there. So, yes, at the end of my performance I glanced down and did a squeal and then walked off stage. So, if I get to see her tonight I am going to apologize." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
