- Story Text: Passengers remained stranded in Germany's largest airport on Monday (December 20) as wintry weather continued to cause chaos through much of northern Europe.
Despite slight improvements in weather conditions around the airport, a backlog of flights was still causing major delays and several cancellations.
A spokesman from Fraport, the company which runs the airport, told Reuters that around 300 of the 1,325 planned flights for Monday had been cancelled but that conditions were improving.
Around 500 passengers spent the night in the airport on camp beds and were provided by the airport with food and drinks.
"I'm coming from New York and I want to go to Poland and my flight is delayed for two days already and now I just found out that my flight to Poland is cancelled. In one hour there is one flight at 8 o'clock but I will never make it by eight, or 7.20 in this queue," said Arthur Uvjesdovske.
"I've just flown from Boston and I'm going to Prague but my flight has been cancelled so I'm waiting in this line and hoping I will get out soon," Dominika Arrejasova told Reuters TV.
The airport spokesman said that the situation in Frankfurt was being made worse by cancellations at other major airports around Europe.
Thousands of passengers had been left stranded in Frankfurt on Sunday (December 19) after more than 500 flights were cancelled.
More snow and rain has been forecast for the coming days. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
