The miners, responding to a televised appeal from Iliescu, flocked to the capital from western Romania at dawn and took over Magheru Boulevard on June 13.The miners, carrying clubs, seized suspected government opponents and marched them to police stations. They also occupied the offices of two opposition parties defeated in the May 20 elections, the National Peasants Party and the National Liberal Party.
