Summary:Rescue workers struggled on June 22 to dig out thousands of dead and injured buried by Iran's worst earthquake. At least 40,000 people died, 100,000 were injured and 500,000 others made homeless. The earthquake measured 7.3 on the Richter scale and was reported to be the deadliest since 240,000 were killed in the north-eastern Chinese city of Tangshan in 1976.
