- Story Text: English Premier League champions Manchester United and FC Seoul held a news conference after United won a friendly match 3-2 in Seoul on Friday (July 24).
FC Seoul's forward Dejan Damajanovic scored two goals in the first half, but Manchester's Wayne Rooney, Federico Macheda and Dimitar Berbatov all scored to record their second win over Seoul.
Around 65,000 South Korean fans gathered at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul to cheer for Manchester United as well as their home team.
The Premier League champions have a huge South Korean following, especially with the nation's favourite player, Park Ji-sung, in the squad.
At the post-match news conference, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said he had enjoyed the game.
"I enjoyed it, enjoyed the competition. I thought the match itself was played at a good pace, good tempo, good intensity, and the type of game that we probably need now. So, I'm pleased at the result, and pleased at the quality of the match," said Ferguson.
FC Seoul team manager Senol Gunes, who is Turkish, said it had been a good chance to check his players capabilities.
"I gave chances to all of my team's players. There were some mistakes by our team's young and inexperienced players. Anyway, we lost the game, but I could check my players capability and I hope to see them keep playing well. I'm satisfied that I could check my players capacity," said Gunes.
Manchester United's South Korean player Park Ji-sung said he was delighted to play.
"I was very much disappointed two years ago because I did not have a chance to play in the match. But this time I'm satisfied that I could play on the ground at least for a while for my Korean fans, wearing a Manchester United shirt," he said.
United's Asian tour began with two friendly matches, which they won, against a Malaysia XI on July 18 and 20. The team was scheduled to play against an Indonesian All-Star team on July 20, but they had to cancel it after fatal bomb attacks in Jakarta.
The squad will leave Seoul on Saturday (July 25) to complete their pre-season tour with a friendly game against Hangzhou Greentown in China on Sunday (July 26). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
