  • Story Text: American actress Daryl Hannah has opened the Harrods mid-summer sale in the British capital.

    London's world renowned shopping landmark, Harrods, opened its doors to bargain hunters on Wednesday (July 9) in the usual style, with a celebrity ribbon-cutter.

    Hannah entered the store in grand style followed by a throng of Scottish pipers, before the countdown to "the greatest sale in the world" began.

    Harrods owner Al Fayed and the blonde star of "Roxanne" and "Splash" toured the store's best bargains on offer.

    Women buyers rushed to the shoe department to snap up the thousands of reduced shoes.

    Other half-price offers to tempt bargain hunters - many of whom had waited outside the store all night - included a 124-piece canteen of Harrods sterling silver reduced down to 4,495 pounds sterling.

    The sale will run for 10 days until July 19.
