Kilmer makes his London stage debut with 'The Postman
Always Rings Twice'.
Batman actor Val Kilmer has made his stage debut in
London on Tuesday (June 7) taking on the part made famous
by Jack Nicholson and John Garfield, who both starred in
film versions of the novel "The Postman Always Rings Twice"
by James M Cain.
Fresh from a critical mauling in the Oliver Stone film
"Alexander", Kilmer portrays a drifter who seduces a lonely
housewife.
The 1981 film which paired Nicholson with Jessica Lange
was so racy it upset censors. Kilmer and British co-star
Charlotte Emerson aren't shy either - the pair manage to
generate some heat with their passionate embraces.
The play is the first that brings Kilmer to London stages.
"It's a very tough play and I just hope that people
appreciate it, it's very active, the cast is great and I
just hope they enjoy it as much as we do," he said.
Kilmer has starred in over 40 Hollywood films,
including "Top Gun", "The Doors" and "Heat". His stage work
includes many Broadway productions including "Henry IV Part
!" and "The Slab Boys".
"The Postman Always Rings Twice" will be shown at the
Playhouse Theatre for a 10-week-limited season.
Although he's a pro when it comes to stage work, Kilmer
was nevertheless nervous about how English audiences would
react to his debut in London.
"I feel very happy. It was a good show, it's a great
cast so I just feel relieved", he said at the play's
aftershow party. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
