- Story Text: All parties to the war in Bosnia assembled on a remote United States (U.S.) military base on Wednesday (November 1) to start the search for a way out of the carnage.
Before the official start of the summit, United States Secretary of State Warren Christopher held bilateral talks with the Balkan leaders. He first met with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
Christopher will later preside over opening ceremonies for the open-ended talks among the presidents of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia -- factions that are the main parties to the most brutal war Europe has seen in 50 years -- under supervision of U.S., European and Russian mediators.
