- Story Text: Before a capacity crowd at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (March 2), Wolverhampton Wanderers ended a ten-year lean period by winning one of England's top soccer trophies -- the Leagus Cup. The defeated another first division side, Manchester city, in a hard game that was not decided until six minutes before full time. It was the first major title to be won by Wolves since 1960 when they won the Football Association cup in 1960.
Wolves and Manchester City qualified for the final only after winning a series of knock-out rounds against other English League sides. The Manchester side included four England players, Summerbee, Lee, Marsh and Bell, and one member of Scotland's World Cup side, Dennis Law. They were beaten by a side with just one full international, the veteran Derek Deugan of Northern Island.
Score two - one.
