- Story Text: The Sovereign's Parade at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst was held on Friday (8 March). For many of the cadets - who come from all parts of the World -- it is the last Parade of their military training. Those taking part in the Parade have completed their course, and leave the Academy to take up posts in the armed forces of many countries.
The Salute was taken on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, by General Sir Peter Hunt, the Chief of the General Staff. General Hunt was Commandant of the Royal Military Academy from 1966 to 1968.
Among the special guests at the Parade were the Foreign Minister of Qatar, Shaikh Suhaim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Qatar's Ambassador to London, His Excellency Ahmed bin Said Al Thani. Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Thani, the brother of the Amir of Qatar, was also present at the ceremony.
Qatar's Foreign Minister, Shaikh Suhaim, had a special reason for attending - one of his sons was among those cadets passing out at the ceremony.
During the Parade the Sword of Honour was presented to Senior Under Officer Marcus Craggs from Harrow School, who lives at Laxfield, near Woodbridge in Suffolk. He has been commissioned into the 9th/12th Royal Lancers. The Parade was commanded by the Adjutant Major, J.B. Pope, of the Coldstream Guards, and the Academy Sergeant Major was AcSM Raymond P. Huggins, of the Grenadier Guards.
