- Story Text: A U.S. armoured vehicle has been destroyed in a
suspected rocket-propelled grenade attack north of Baghdad.
The eyewitnesses said the U.S. armoured vehicle was
hit by a rocket-propelled grenade near Tarmyeiah town, 35
kilometres north of Baghdad, early on Friday (December 5).
It had been part of a convoy of humvees and other armoured
vehicles.
There were no word on casualties and U.S. officials in
Baghdad could not be reached for comment.
U.S. troops in humvees and tanks cordoned off the area
while the vehicle was burning amid crackles of gunfire and
explosions.
In Baghdad, U.S. soldiers blocked a main highway in
al-Jidida neighbourhood on Friday after what witnesses said
was an explosion from a roadside bomb near a U.S convoy.
The bomb caused slight damage to the protective fence
of the bridge. There were no reports on the casualties.
At least 189 American soldiers have been killed in
action since Washington declared major combat over on May 1.
