- Story Text: Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has rejected
as "ridiculous" a complaint of indecent assault laid against
him by a woman in South Africa.
Manchester United soccer team manager Alex Ferguson on
Saturday (October 12) rejected as "ridiculous" a complaint of
indecent assault laid against him by a woman in South Africa.
"It is ridiculous," Ferguson told reporters at a resort
near Vereeniging -- some 100 km (60 miles) south of
Johannesburg -- before flying by helicopter to the capital
Pretoria, where he was due to attend a soccer academy run by
former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey.
Ferguson's lawyers said told state prosecutors that a
complaint against Ferguson was groundless and were seeking a
Saturday decision on the complaint.
Police are investigating a complaint of indecent assault
against Ferguson which was laid on Friday (October 11). They
had initially said that the director of public prosecutions
would open a file on the subject on Monday (October 13) and
review the evidence to decide whether it was enough to form a
case.
