- Story Text: Eighteen crew members picket the British freighter Rockwood, tied up in Port Arthur, demanding more pay. The six thousand ton ship is under charter to a Montreal firm, the Federal Commerce Navigation Company, and will spend the summer plying Canadian waters. As a result, the men say, they want more money to meet the higher cost of living. They now earn just over a hundred dollars a month, about half what they would be paid on a Canadian ship. The men walked off the Rockwood soon after she arrived in Port Arthur to undergo repairs to her hull. But after three days the men stopped picketing to hold talks with Captain Albert Dover. Two officials of the British Seamen's Union are also in Port Arthur to help settle the dispute. Twenty other men on the ship ...officers, engineers and stewards... did not join the walkout.
