  • Story Text: Brazil's World Cup striker Luizao arrived in the German
    capital on Thursday (July 25) to sign a contract with Hertha
    Berlin, the German first division club.



    The 26-year-old, joining from Brazilian side Gremio,
    signed a four-year deal.

    Luizao played two matches as a substitute in Brazil's
    World Cup-wining campaign. Hertha already have two Brazilians
    in midfielder Marcelinho and striker Alex Alves.

    Luizao, who has scored five goals in 11 international
    appearances, played twice for Brazil in their World
    Cup-winning campaign.

    He twice replaced Ronaldo in the two games they played
    against Turkey, but took no part in their 2-0 victory over
    Germany in the final.

    Hertha had been chasing Luizao for months. The
    penalty-area specialist joined Gremio last March after a court
    battle against his former club Corinthians, who refused to
    sell him.

    Although he won after being ruled a free agent, the case
    left him out of action for over a month.

    Hertha finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season and
    will play in the UEFA Cup. They already have two Brazilians on
    their books in playmaker Marcelinho and striker Alex Alves.

    Hertha kick off their Bundesliga campaign away to
    champions Borussia Dortmund on August 9.
