Date:29th April 1991
Summary:Kurdish refugees have started to leave the Turkish mountains for safe havens in northern Iraq after Kurdish guerrilla leaders accepted guarantees for their safety from allied commanders on April 29. British marine medical officers in Zakho helped Kurdish families to come down from the mountains. UN vehicles carrying officials and supplies arrived in Zakho from Turkey on April 30 to set up a humanitarian centre alongside Western forces. UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar said on April 29 that he was unable to give details of how big a force might be needed.
