- Story Text: A train derailment in the German town of Mannheim on Friday (August 1) evening left 35 people injured, according to police. 14 people had to be treated in hospital, four of them with severe but not life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
A private freight train rammed a EuroCity express train near the main station of Mannheim for reasons yet unknown, causing the last two wagons of the passenger train to derail and tip onto their side. About 110 passengers were in the wagons at the time of the accident.
"The Federal police is doing everything in order to figure out what caused the accident," said the operations manager of the Federal police, Udo Goergen. He said that is confident that they will determine the cause of the accident soon.
The freight train also included two wagons with dangerous goods but they were undamaged, as operations manager of the Federal police, Udo Goergen, told the media: "There were two wagons with dangerous goods, but there was no damage to them. There are totally undamaged and there is no danger." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
