He was met by various officials, including Moscow Deputy Mayor Sergei Stankevich. Gorbachev said his captors had him surrounded with troops at his Black Sea summer home for three days and had tried to break him and his family. He said he was '- extremely appreciative and grateful to the Soviet people and - to Boris Yeltsin'.
