- Story Text: The Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem launched an exhibition commemorating 30 years of peace between Israel and Egypt.
The 'Echoes of Egypt' exhibition was launched on Monday (March 22), displaying dozens of items, including maps, photos, paintings and prints of Egypt's monuments and the daily life, taken by the first Westerners to document Egypt from the mid 16th century to the 19th century.
Among the items exhibited, was a photo of a Sphinx and the pyramids taken by Francis Frith in 1857.
Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel but it is often described as a cold peace since relations extend little beyond official government contacts.
Amira Oron, Director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry's department of Egypt, highlighted the importance of this peace treaty.
"Thirty years have passed and it's a real important event for us, for all of us to celebrate. The peace is a very stable peace. We feel that we can achieve more from this peace but as it is now, it is an achievement because we manage to have peace accord with the biggest and the most important state in the Arab world -- Egypt," Oron said at the opening ceremony.
Israel and egypt signed an agreement in Washington DC on March 26, 1979, following the Camp David accords in 1978.
