Summary:Suchinda Kraprayoon resigned as Thai prime minister on May 24 after 48 days in power. He said he wanted to show his political responsibility and to allow parliamentary debate on a new constitution. Suchinda said he deeply regretted the bloodshed and he appealed for national reconciliation. Official reports said 46 people died when the military suppressed protests against the unelected Suchinda, but opposition leaders said more than 100 died.
