Summary:The UN Security Council decided unanimously on February 22 to set up the first international war crimes tribunal since World War II, in order to prosecute those responsible for atrocities in the former Yugoslavia. The council resolution, initiated by France, decided that a court should be established to penalise those responsible for ethnic cleansing, mass killings and systematic rape since 1991.
