Summary:The French centre-right alliance Union for France (UPF) prepared to take power on March 29 after the largest electoral victory in France since 1824. Final results show the UPF won 484 of the National Assembly's 577 seats. The UPF's main party was the Gaullist Rally for the Republic (RPR) which won 247 seats - 34 more than its ally Union for French Democracy (UDF). In a TV address RPR leader Jacques Chirac said the country had rejected socialism.
