- Story Text: Argentine authorities announced Wednesday (November 9) that they had identified the suicide driver responsible for bombing a Jewish centre in Buenos Aires in 1994 as a young Hezbolah militant from Lebanon.
"We have been able to identify the person responsible for the AMIA (Mutual Association of Israeli Argentines) bombing as a suicide bomber, a Lebanese citizen and militant Hezbolah member. We also have a number of elements that point almost conclusively that the operation was orchestrated by the Lebanese Hezbolah," said Argentine Federal Prosecutor, Alberto Nisman at a news conference. The bomb blast killed 85 and injured hundreds of others in the largest attack on the Jewish community since World War II.
The investigation included interviews with Berro's family in the United States with the aid of FBI investigators who cooperated with Argentine intelligence agencies to bring the investigation to a successful conclusion. Berro was 21 when he drove his car bomb into the AMIA Centre.. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
