- Story Text: Hundreds of fans gathered outside the television station TVN to bid farewell to the beloved entertainer Felipe Camiroaga on Tuesday (September 13).
He was one of the 21 victims who plunged into the Pacific Ocean in a military aircraft on September 02.
Accompanied by his TV crew, he was to film a report about reconstruction on the islands after last year's devastating earthquake and tsunami.
An urn containing his ashes was presented at the a flower-filled courtyard in TVN's offices where Camiroaga's popular talk show "Buenos Dias a Todos" ("Good Morning Everyone") was filmed.
Several falcons used on the show was brought in for the ceremony.
The funeral procession then continued out in the street, cheered on by thousands as military planes flew overhead in commemoration.
Camiroaga was to be buried later in the day on a farm to the north of the city.
One of Chile's worst air disasters in recent years, the crash was followed up by more bad news on Tuesday.
Another air force troop was killed after being hit by the propellor of a military vehicle.
The accident happened on the Juan Fernandez archipelago, the same site where the earlier crash had occurred.
"I need to inform the country that a few minutes ago an accident occurred which has taken the life of another man from the air force," Chilean Defense Minister, Andres Allamand, said.
The man had been helping to search for the remains of the crashed military aircraft. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
