- Story Text: Chile has added the erotic channel Playboy to their
television line-up, prompting protests by various groups who
say that the country will lose traditional values.
Playboy Enterprises Inc.on Thursday (February 10)
launched erotic television in conservative Chile despite
protests that it would corrupt traditional values in the
predominately Roman Catholic country.
The only other Latin American countries that do not show
Playboy TV are Paraguay and Bolivia, said Thomas Free, general
manager of Playboy TV Latin America and Iberia.
Playboy TV runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and
features erotic amateur videos and "Night Calls" in which sexy
hostesses carry out guests' fantasies on the screen.
"This (opposition) is normal," Playboy's Free said at a
news conference."Although this may be a controversial debut,
it is rare that things happen without controversy."
Playboy TV's debut was a low-key affair with reporters
more interested in seeing the Millennium Playmates, Peruvian
twins Darlene and Carol Bernaola.
"The girls are coming," Free assured the anxious press
before showing video clips of Playboy TV.
