- Story Text: Dancers clad in nothing more than a few daubs of paint perform in the streets of Havana for the International Visual Arts Biennial.
Manuel Mendive is one of Cuba's most celebrated artists and his favorite medium is nude bodies.
The painter decorated a collection of people for Havana's X International Visual Arts Biennial, and sent them through the streets on Sunday (March 29) in what he called a performance of peace and love.
"[This is] a performance of peace, love, understanding and that we can continue living in this great space -- and so beautiful is this earth -- with kindness and goodness," Mendive said.
Dancers from the Cuban Contemporary Dance company and musicians from the National Folklore Company and other major national orchestras came together to get on their paint and join the celebration.
The procession paraded through the streets of Havana towards the Gran Teatro Gallery, attracted a growing crowd of onlookers on the way.
"I think it is so precious and we have been asking ourselves if he is talking about the race, the use of the nude black, body and what could he be trying to say in respect to colonial relations," said Salvadorean tourist, Luz Mena.
