Preval, who met Castro at the Palacio de la Revolución, headquarters of the Cuban government arrived in Havana Wednesday (April 12) accompanied by close to 40 Haitians suffering from eye problems who will be treated free of charge by Cuban doctors.
President-elect Preval said he wants to move the relationship between Cuba and Haiti forward and spoke of the cooperation between the two nations in the field of medicine.
According to President-elect Preval, Cuban doctors have performed more than eight million exams and over one hundred surgeries in Haiti.
About five hundred Haitian college-age students attend medical school in Cuba.
Preval will be sworn in as president of Haiti on May 14th.
