Summary:The summer of 1916, saw the long deferred confrontation of Germany's High Seas Fleet and Britain's Grand Fleet in the Battle of Jutland or, as the Germans call it, the Battle of Skagerrak, history's biggest naval battle which both side claim as a victory. The British lost three battle cruisers, three cruisers, eight torpedo craft and 6,274 officers and men. The Germans lost one battleship, one battle cruiser four light cruisers, five torpedo craft and 2,545 officers and men. The losses inflicted on Britain, however, were not enough to affect the numerical superiority of their fleet over Germany in the North Sea.
