- Story Text: Spain's 82-year-old Head of State, General Francisco Franco, stood to attention for 90 minutes on Sunday (25 May) to take the salute in a military march past celebrating the 36th anniversary of his victory in the Spanish Civil War.
General Franco saluted frequently as 11,000 men and nearly 500 tanks, rockets, rocket launchers and armoured cars paraded past. His appearance has dispelled doubts over his health. He was seriously ill with phlebitis -- an inflammation of the veins -- in his right leg last summer
A flypast of Mirage and phantom jets of the Spanish Air Force was the highlight of the parade.
