- Title: USA: White House Party
- Date: 17th March 1995
- Summary: US President Clinton, hosting nationalist and loyalist politicians from Northern Ireland at a White House St.Patrick's Day party, urged them on March 17 1995, to put aside extremism and pursue peace. Clinton told over 300 guests, including Gerry Adams of Sinn Fein and Gary McMichael of the Ulster Democratic Party - I wish all our guests from Northern Ireland, and all the parties concerned, to put aside all extremism for the common good of peace. Sinn Fein is the political wing of the Irish Republican Army, while the Ulster Democratic Party is the political wing of the Ulster Defence Association, the largest Protestant paramilitary group in Northern Ireland. The party in the East Room was officially in honour of visiting Irish Prime Minister John Bruton and his wife, Finola. But all eyes were turned on Adams and McMichael. Clinton said he had invited representatives of all parties from Northern Ireland and was delighted with the results. Those who take risks for peace are always welcome under this roof, he said. Earlier Bruton said that there were four steps to take in the peace process. He said those steps were to get the politicians to talk to one another, dump the arms, reform the police and release the prisoners.WARNING:LOCAL MUSIC LICENCES MAY APPLY.Copyright laws covering the composition, arrangement and/or performance of music differ from country to country, and even from state to state within some countries. These range from limiting the law to specific circumstances - e.g. 'performances given by professionals to a paying audience' - to total coverage that encompasses everything from a professional performance to the most amateur rendition - e.g. 'spectators at sports events'. If in doubt we recommend that either the section containing 'Music' is deleted or that the sound level is turned down and covered with commentary.
