- Title: Canada-Russia: G-7 Summit
- Date: 16th June 1995
- Summary: Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) major industrial countries began the first full day of their three-day summit on June 16 1995, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with escalating fighting in Bosnia overshadowing the proceedings. US President Bill Clinton began the day with an early morning jog in the coastal Canadian town, before later joining other leaders from Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Canada and Italy at the summit centre. Russian President Boris Yeltsin was due to join the presidents and prime ministers for discussion on the war in Bosnia. Before leaving Moscow earlier on Friday, Yeltsin acknowledged that he had almost cancelled his trip to Halifax because of a hostage crisis in the southern Russian town of Budennovsk. Yeltsin said he would use the meeting to brief G7 partners on the situation in Chechnya and to urge the world to fight terrorism.
