Summary:Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands was welcomed by President Suharto on August 21 at the start of a landmark state visit to Indonesia, a former Dutch colony that has just marked 50 years of independence. Queen Beatrix, accompanied by her husband Prince Claus, was met by Suharto at Jakarta's state palace, once home to governors general from The Netherlands, which held colonial power over the Asian archipelago for nearly four centuries. The two leaders were to meet again at a state dinner on Monday after the queen lays wreaths at Indonesian and Dutch war cemeteries, and visits Dutch school- children. A high-powered, 60-member business delegation led by Dutch Economics Minister Hans Wijers was making a parallel visit.
